Male genitals are indispensable for sexual reproduction. The testicles produce testosterone, the male sexual hormone, and are the production and maturation site of sperm. The penis serves both as a sexual organ and the outermost part of the urethra and, thus, plays an important role in urination.

For developmental reasons, male genitals can be divided into internal and external sexual organs. The external sexual organs include the penis and the scrotum. The internal sexual organs include the testicles, the epididymis, the spermatic ducts, and the so-called accessory sex glands such as the prostate, the seminal vesicles, and other, smaller glands.
