Gernot Bonkat studied human medicine at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich and Julius Maximilian University in Würzburg. After completing his medical studies, Gernot Bonkat initially worked in Switzerland and Germany. In 2007, he moved to the University Hospital Basel. In 2012, a one-year clinical-scientific stay at the renowned Tygerberg Hospital of Stellenbosch University, South Africa, followed. Before founding alta uro in 2016, Gernot Bonkat worked at the University Hospital Basel as a senior physician.
